What is a VanguardAdvantage account?

A VanguardAdvantage account lets you consolidate and manage your investment and cash management needs in one convenient place. You get the ability to trade stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit (CDs), and non-Vanguard mutual funds, plus you get cash management features, including unlimited checkwriting, a VanguardAdvantage Visa® Gold debit card, and optional electronic bill payment.

How can I make deposits to my account?

You can make deposits to your VanguardAdvantage account by transferring money into your linked money market account or by using direct deposit. You can set up options online for wire redemptions, automatic investments, or periodic transfers from your bank account to your money market. Log on at Vanguard.com, go to My Portfolio, and then select Account Profile. You cannot make deposits at an ATM.

When will I receive my checkbook and debit card?

Your VanguardAdvantage account checkbook and Visa Gold debit card, if elected, will be sent by first-class mail to the address listed on your application. You should receive your checks and your debit card within ten days from the date your account was opened. For security reasons, your personal identification number (PIN) will be mailed separately, and you should receive it within three to five business days after you receive your debit card.

Note: You must activate your debit card before use, and you must establish a PIN before using an ATM or making a debit purchase.

What should I do if I have a lost or stolen card?

Call Vanguard Brokerage Services immediately at 800-992-8327 to report any lost or stolen debit card.

How can I get overdraft protection on my account?

Overdraft protection is available for transactions using your VanguardAdvantage account checks or Visa Gold debit card, and for VanguardAdvantage Billpay® transactions. You can only obtain overdraft protection if you have been approved for margin trading.

Not everyone is approved for margin trading, and overdraft protection is not available on custodial accounts for minors. If you are approved for margin trading, you must have securities in the account to use as collateral for overdraft protection.

I need an additional debit card for my spouse. What name will be printed on the new card?

Each registered account owner will receive a Visa Gold debit card with his or her name printed on it. Additional cards may be requested by calling us at 800-992-8327 on business days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Eastern time.

Each debit card will include only the name of the account owner.

Can I use any ATM? What fees can I expect?

Your debit card can be used at any ATM worldwide, wherever the Visa or Plus System logos are displayed. You will not be charged a transaction fee if the bank is affiliated with PNC Bank. To find a PNC affiliate near you, go to www.pnc.com.

What is VanguardAdvantage Billpay?

VanguardAdvantage Billpay allows you to pay bills online through our secure website. You can also have bills sent to you electronically for payment.

To add Billpay to an existing VanguardAdvantage account, click My Portfolio, then Accounts & Activity. Go to Transaction History for your VanguardAdvantage Account, then select Pay bills from this account at the right of the page.

Will I receive copies of the checks I have written?

You can review your checking account activity and view images of your cashed VanguardAdvantage account checks online at Vanguard.com. Individual checks won't be returned to you.

Why will the checkwriting option on my money market be deactivated once I open a VanguardAdvantage account?

If you recently opened a VanguardAdvantage account, the checkwriting associated with this new account will replace the option on the Vanguard money market account linked to your Vanguard Brokerage Services account.

Destroy any remaining checks that you have for your money market account and begin using the new ones for your VanguardAdvantage account. Your old checks will not be honored once your VanguardAdvantage account has been established.

Any outstanding checks that you have written but that have not yet cleared through a bank will clear and be debited from your account.
