Portfolio Tester—Help |
Portfolio Tester™ enables you to see how changes to the holdings in an account group would affect your Portfolio Watch analysis results before you make them. Use Portfolio Tester to make hypothetical changes to any of the holdings in an account group. You can also add individual stocks or mutual funds to your hypothetical analysis. Currently, Portfolio Tester can only add stocks or mutual funds as hypothetical holdings. Other investments, such as individual bonds and CDs, are not recognized for Portfolio Tester's analysis. When you click Analyze, Portfolio Tester will show you a side-by-side comparison of your actual account group and your account group with your hypothetical changes. Choosing an account groupYou can test changes for any of your account groups. Use the dropdown menu to select the account group that you would like to analyze. Adding hypothetical holdingsTo add an individual stock or mutual fund to your hypothetical analysis:
To add more hypothetical holdings, use the “Add another line” link. Making hypothetical changes to your holdingsMake hypothetical changes to the values of any of the holdings in your account group by entering your changes in the box to the right of the holding. For example, enter 500 to add $500 to the value of a holding; or enter –500 to reduce the holding by $500. To keep a holding unchanged, leave its box blank. The changes you enter are hypothetical and only for Portfolio Tester's analysis. They are not changes to your actual account balances. Analyzing your changesTo see the effects of your hypothetical changes, click Analyze. Portfolio Tester will analyze both your current account group and your hypothetical changes and show you the results side-by-side. Returning to Portfolio WatchTo return to your Portfolio Watch analyses at any time, click Return to My Analysis. Portfolio Tester will not save any hypothetical changes once you leave the page. Changing your actual holdingsTo change your holdings, go to Accounts & Activity to request transactions for your Vanguard® accounts. To change investments held at another institution, contact that institution. |
