Statistics Canada On the Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, March 2024

Statistics Canada on Wednesday provided an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for March. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales declined 2.8% in March, it said, before adding: the largest decreases were in the transportation equipment and petroleum and coal product subsectors.

According to StatsCan, this estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 64.4%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 94.8%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the March reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than its regular monthly release.
